Coconut Zinc Wax Diaper Rash Cream

This recipe relies on zinc oxide powder as the active ingredient. Zinc oxide has powerful antibacterial and antioxidant properties, removing the irritants that inflame the rash. Like coconut oil, it also contains nutrients that are absorbed into the skin to stimulate healing. The texture of coconut oil ensures that the cream glides smoothly over the skin, so the baby feels better from the start. The beeswax binds the other ingredients together and creates a protective waterproof layer while the baby's skin heals naturally.

Unlike other moisturizing agents, coconut oil keeps the pores open instead of blocking them So this cream is suitable for any kind of rash and can be used repeatedly to soothe and stimulate healing.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup beeswax
1 1/4 cups virgin coconut oil
1  1/2 teaspoons zinc oxide powder
1 teaspoon arrowroot

If necessary, add a little more of the coconut oil/beeswax combination or more dry ingredients to achieve the right consistency. Store in a jar with an airtight lid. Skin Care with Coconut Oil

Pure virgin coconut oil is the ideal cleanser and moisturizer for your skin. Unlike commercial cleansers and moisturizers, it will not strip your skin of its natural layer of protection. As coconut oil contains a high level of fats, it is also an excellent emollient, smoothing your skin to remove fine lines and soothing itching and irritation. It can moisturize your skin so it is supple and glowing, and the nutrients in coconut oil will rejuvenate and nourish new cells while removing dead skin cells.

Coconut oil is a highly effective treatment for skin conditions such as acne, dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis. Once coconut oil has absorbed into the skin, it disrupts the natural environment for microbes that trigger such skin conditions. Coconut oil also has healing powers due to its antiseptic properties, so it speeds healing of acne, rashes, and even minor cuts and wounds.

How to Make Your Own Fresh Coconut Milk or Cream

While coconut milk is always available in the supermarket, nothing beats the nutritious and delicious value of your own freshly made coconut milk.

Ingredients:

A fresh coconut (preferably an organic one) or 1 cup dried shredded coconut
A good quality grater (or food processor with grater attachment)

A cheesecloth, fine mesh strainer, or nut milk bag (you can easily find these in a health food shop) Hot water (preferably purified) A good-quality blender

If using fresh coconut, grate all the flesh. Be sure to remove the brown outer skin. If using shredded coconut, put equal parts of coconut and purified water in a bowl and let it soak and rehydrate.

Place 1 cup of your grated/hydrated coconut in a blender with 2 cups of warm water and blend until smooth. For a creamier texture, use less water.

Pour through a fine mesh strainer, cheesecloth, or nut milk bag.

Repeat the process with the remaining coconut in the strainer. Do not repeat too many times, as the milk will be weaker each time. Leftover coconut meal can be baked in to cookies.

Enjoy this fresh coconut milk or coconut cream in your smoothies, curries, healthy desserts, or anywhere a recipe calls for coconut milk or coconut cream.

Storing Coconut Milk and Coconut Cream

As fresh coconut milk/cream has a short shelf life, you should use it immediately or freeze in BPA-free food containers, ice cube trays, or baby-food storage containers. Ice cube trays give you the correct portions and temperature for fresh smoothies!

Spa Facial Steam for Normal to Oily Skin

This Spa Facial Steam for Normal to Oily Skin works to soften your skin, open pores to loosen clogged debris, and release toxins.

YIELDS: 1 pint
3/4 cup dried comfrey
5 tablespoons dried lavender flowers
3 tablespoons dried rosemary
1/4 cup dried parsley
1/4 cup dried peppermint
1/4 cup dried lemon peel

* What you will need: Mixing bowl, measuring cups, measuring spoons, 2 wooden spoons, pint-size canning jar with lid

1.    To Make: Place all of the herbs in the mixing bowl and toss like a salad until you have a uniform blend. I like to use my hand to blend herbs, but you can also use two spoons. Transfer to the jar, label, and cap tightly.

2.    To Store: Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight and use within 2 years.

3.    To Use: To use, bring 4 cups of water to a boil, then remove from heat. Stir 2 tablespoons of the herbs into the water. Cover and let stand for 5 minutes. Carefully bring the pot to a table and make a tent over the pot with a bath towel to create a mini steam room. Clean your face, then hover over the steaming pot at least 8 inches away with your eyes closed. If the steam is too hot, open a vent to let some of the steam out and move your face a bit farther away from the steam. Breathe deeply, relaxing for 5-15 minutes. Note: If this whole production seems daunting, but you'd like the benefits of a facial steam, soak a washcloth in the herbal brew and place on your face for a few minutes, then repeat. Just be sure to let the cloth cool to a safe temperature before putting it on your skin. Note: Facial steams are not recommended for cystic acne, rosacea, or inflamed skin conditions.
